Elwood Payne Bonney was born 16 August 1897 in Pennsylvania. On 28 April 1934, he married Dora Myrtle King. The couple had three daughters. Because of his work as an amateur historian, Elwood P. On the 4th of July, 1876, as the United States turned 100, a group of people [the 'Boston Party'] from the east built a flagpole out of a pine tree and raised the American flag in Antelope Park. Seven years later, a railroad--the Atlantic and Pacific Railway--was constructed through Antelope Park. The town was named for the flagstaff which was still standing.
